What is the best method to settle auto accident charges without going thru insurance

hi I was involved in a car accident i california. I hit another car in my blind-spot when i tried to change the lane. The impact was very minor and no one was injured. we both stopped and discussed. We decided to exchange insurance information. We did. Then, i offered to fix the damages myself as the impact was very less. So, I found the repair charges for the damage to the other car and discussed with the other party over the phone next day. He agreed to the amount I mentioned and I agreed to pay him the amount agreed upon over the phone. Is sending a personal check WITH PROPER COMMENTS about settlement towards the accident sufficient ? I am just wondering that the other party should not be calling my insurance later after this settlement is done between us. Appreciate all replies based on experience or based on law. Thanks

Firstly, adjust your mirrors correctly to get rid of the huge blind spot that obscured a whole car. Secondly, learn to check over your shoulder to make sure your blind spot, no matter how small, is definitely clear.

Now you’re not going to kill a biker because “I didn’t see you”, send the cheque post-dated and request from them a letter confirming that they have received a cheque from you for the full settlement of damages to their car caused by accident dated such-and-such. Ask them to include the check number, and then you have proof that you have settled the matter if something should come up in the future.

Of course he can contact your insurance company later. And if/when he does, you won’t have a legal leg to stand on. . You are a fool to settle on your own when your insurance will settle it for you. You can get all the signatures you want when paying him and they won’t be worth the paper they are written on…. What in the he*l do you have insurance for if it isn’t for just such an accident?

When you have insurance…..USE IT !

Can unmarried couples who live together have joint auto insurance in Illinois

My fiance and I are getting married in January. We own a home together. We live in Cook County. We were having some issues with insurance and are in the process of combining our auto policies and changing over our homeowners policy. His insurance broker tried telling us that since we aren’t married yet, we both can’t be on the same policy he says it is a law in Illinois (I think he is full of crap, I work in the legal world and have heard of no such law) Has anyone else heard of this? I want to check my facts before I tell my fiance’s entire family to switch brokers because this guy is a fraud. Additionally, even if the law does exist, I’m switching from this guy. He gave us a quote from some company I have never heard of, and after I told him the car insurance was too high, the quote "suddenly" came down $400 and "suddenly" our quote for the homeowners went up… wtf? My insurance broker had no problem with putting us on a joint coverage plan with a reputable company, Traveler’s.
This is exactly what he told me: "We cannot insure your car on his policy, unless he is on the title as an owner, nor can we insure
his cars on a policy in your name." This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Some of companies are always ripping you off at every chance they get. I got a small accident where the damage was negligible cheaper than deductible, so I for it myself. But when I was about to renew my policy, they charged me extra. I was shocked. You can’t just compare completely different cultures. Japan is highly developed but India still keeps its strong original traditions.
